Vickie watched Mike storm off. She turned back to Josh and Becki. Josh looked like he was still steaming. Becki was trying to calm him down. Her eyes drifted back to where Mike had gone. He knows. My secret is out, but I really didn't do anything. They've done it on their own. She looked at the "couple" again.
Josh glared down the hall. "He better get the hell out of my room."
"Josh," she said in a quiet, yet demanding tone. "Just leave it alone, ok? You are the one who hit him first."
"He said I went to the Dark side!" He flung his arm out towards the hall in emphasis.
"Maybe you did, maybe you didn't. It's over now. No need to pour more salt into any wounds." She wiped a finger across the tip of her nose and came away with a drop of blood. "Now, if you two would excuse me, I need to go clean up. This makeup is beginning to itch." She turned and moved towards the living room.
Vickie grabbed one of the medpacks and headed to the bathroom. After vigorously washing her face, she checked her cheek. Several of the spots were blistering while the others were just scratches. Opening the medpack, she pulled out the bacta gel and applied it to the areas.
Her thoughts traveled to everything they'd found today, and all they did. She was upset with herself for taking that one man's arm off. If she had only thought to not use her lightsaber's full strength. Josh and Becki were getting along almost TOO well. Granted, this would certainly put her in Llessur's highest regards, but if anyone else found out, she'd probably be exiled herself.
Mike's recent change was not for the better. At least not in her eyes. She swore at the warehouse he was intentionally ricocheting shots towards her.
She checked her hair in the mirror and sighed. There were several little spots where the singed areas were rather noticeable. Nothing short of a new haircut was going to fix that. "Hat," she muttered. "I need a hat." It was a bit late to go get one now, however. Perhaps in the morning, the others wouldn't mind her heading out for a little while.
"Maybe by then everyone will be calmed down too."
She reached out with her senses to the others. Josh still had a tinge of anger, but Becki seemed to be soothing him. Mike was quite a bit more calm. That really confused her. He was disconcerting with how much he'd changed in the past few weeks.
Thayer was his friend, this she knew. And his knowledge, however he found out, of her trying to get Josh and Becki together was dangerous. To her. Mike had always trusted her, and she him. This was going to put a big damper on their relationship.
But what about Llessur? She had become fast friends with the elder Atner. Growing up, she always knew to respect her elders. But now, she was in conflict. Was keeping Llessur happy and losing Mike's trust worth everything?
She sighed and looked back up at her visage in the mirror. There was another drop of blood on her nose. She'd forgotten about the little scratch she received when she went into Mike's room. "It's your own damn fault, Jedi," she scolded herself as she dabbed some bacta on the wound.
Her eyes looked at her right cheek. The welts were already beginning to heal. It was very lucky that bacta worked so well on her. She unfortunately could not heal herself with the Force. "I'm sure the antiseptic I stopped and got helped too," she admitted out loud.
She pulled the bottle of antiseptic and the cover-up makeup from her pocket. "Guess I don't need these anymore." She dumped them into the trash can and washed her hands.
Vickie walked back into the living room and headed for the computer. First thing she did was check her email. There were a couple from Rich, letting her know everything was going well and hoping she was doing ok. There was one from Rekla saying he'd beaten all her records on SSX Tricky. The last email was from one of the royal accounts. She quickly opened it.
It was from Llessur. She was wanting an update on the situation.
She hit the reply button and sat back in her chair. She had to be careful about how to word her message. After all, even in text, some people can tell the mood of the writer.
Becki walked by with a soft smile on her face. "There is some hot water on the stove," she said gesturing with the mug she had in her hand. "If you'd like some tea or cocoa..."
Vickie nodded. "Thanks, Bec." She stood and moved to fix herself some hot russian tea. Returning to the computer, she sat down. She couldn't help but hear Becki and Josh talking.
A shiver traveled down her spine as she heard the words "Dark side" uttered. She listened closely to hear what they were saying. Becki made some good points.
Their discussion traveled to Mike. She listened and was shocked at what she heard. "He's as much a weakness in our team as anyone, with his squeamishness about killing." Her eyes widened. Josh, she thought to herself. It's not about killing.
Becki went on to vaguely explain Mike's objections. Unfortunately, it was lost on Josh. I thought I taught you better. She sighed and looked back at the screen. Her email to Llessur still sat empty.
Sitting forward, she began to type.
Madame Llessur,
Things are finally progressing here in Paris. Our mission seems to be heading in the right direction.
She paused to consider her next words. Becki and Josh had gotten quieter, yet she could feel a great calmness settling over them. She began to type again.
Our plan is working as well. I believe we can deem it a success. He is dedicated to her and I can feel the closeness between them. Victory will be ours.
Je vis à servir.
