Why do you even bother?
I bet this seemed like a dream come true when it started. Flying shuttles! Shooting blasters! Being on Coruscant! Commanding a secret group dedicated to saving the planet! Did you conveniently forget to take into consideration that with the authority comes the responsibility? Or did you not care? Man, you screwed that part up.
Sure, you did all right for your start. You needed most of the elite of the New Republic to bail you out of the fire, of course, but boy, you sure sounded in charge. Like a real leader. Been taking lessons at that commanding voice? Too bad no one cared. After all, you're just a kid. Yes, you do realize that you're commanding people easily twice your age? How do you think that sits with them? How does it sit with you?
What are you doing in a Major's uniform anyway? You know it affords you very little actual authority. It's a paper shield. And what are you doing in a uniform at all? Heh. That's funny. You in uniform. I'm laughing here. Well, it would be funny--if lives weren't on the line.
So, putting aside that you shouldn't even be in your position, let's see how you've been doing. Getting friends killed? Yes. And now you won't even show your face in her home--and there's another brilliant idea. You're real good at making your screwups even more screwed up. Getting friends hurt? Yes. For crying out loud--if it hadn't been for bacta half of your team would be dead several times over. Getting friends in trouble? Yes. OK, so you're 0 for 3 on the interpersonal part. Now let's look at the professional part.
The Hubble Space Telescope. The shield generator. The mission in Atlanta. The Presidential election. Damn, do you even know the meaning of subtlety? Your superiors know you don't. That's why they didn't ask you to take the shield generator back yourself. They sent someone else, someone who was an expert in dealing with primitive cultures, to get it.
Primitive cultures. That's what you are, you realize? You act "enlightened," but in a way that amounts to "I know something you don't know!" You're no better than anyone else on the planet, just because you know something exists they mostly think is fantasy.
Mike had the right idea. He claimed he wasn't cut out for this--but we both know he'll come around. He's too valuable, you see. Mike, he's unique. Everybody on your team is unique, and they all bring a skill set to the table.
Except you, of course. You're practically a nonentity. You want "not cut out for this," you go no further than the mirror.
Back to "too valuable." Just when you thought it wasn't possible to screw up any further on this trip, you managed to let two innocent people know that they're not fully human, and not even the human half is Terran. You didn't tell them at first. Why? Too valuable. You know that that's insane.
Do you enjoy messing in other people's lives as a substitute for having one of your own?
You're pathetic. It might be easier for you to just stop this. Permanently. No use trying to control the entire planet with someone as incompetent as you in charge. Almost anyone "serving under you"--because it's more like "doing their job despite your interference"--is in a better position to do your job.
Just quit now. The airlock is over that way. It'll all be over real fast.
