Operation Arrakis: Keeping Tabs

by Vickie Boyd

Etidorhpa smirked to herself as she opened the door to the Queen Mother's chambers. Her good fortune seemed to be continuing as Llessur called her as soon as she entered. Moving to stand before the desk, she curtsied and bowed her head. "Yes, ma'am?"

Llessur finished writing and laid down her pen. "I need you to go find out if there is any way I can get in touch with Captain Boyd. I realize they have left on their mission, but something has come up and I need her assistance."

Eti's brow furrowed. "Ma'am? Why would you need her assistance?"

The older woman frowned and narrowed her eyes. "Are you questioning my judgement?"

The younger woman's eyes widened. "N... no ma'am," she stumbled over the words. "Not at all."

"Good. Now, go find a way that I can speak with the Captain."

"If I may, ma'am. The ship they took is equipped with a computer. We could simply email her."

Llessur looked pensive. "This is of a personal nature, Eti. I would not want others on that mission to read her email."

Now to put her knowledge to work. "She would have to enter her password in order to retrieve the mail. I am most certain that if the email is as sensitive as you say, Captain Boyd would delete it as soon as she finished."

She sat quietly for a moment in thought. "Very well. I will have the letter composed shortly for you to send."

"Yes ma'am," Eti replied with a sly smile as she curtsied. She turned and moved back over to he seat among the other Ladies-In-Waiting.

Eti sat down in front of the terminal, still smiling. This is going to help my cause so much, she thought as she read over Llessur's letter. Pulling up the mail client, she began to type up the message.

Captain Boyd,

I have asked several of my acquaintances in Paris to keep an eye out for you. They will be able to assist you with any problems that may arise while you are in France. They will also be keeping me informed of the situation with your Lieutenant Bush. Remember what I asked you to do. They will know. I will give them this email address for them to contact you.

Llessur Atner, Queen Mother

Becki sighed as she checked her email yet again. Nothing. Perhaps the server was still down. She clicked back over to the Weather Channel page and watched the snowstorm brewing over southern France. It was going to delay them by an hour to go around the storm.

Vickie was playing a game on her datapad when it suddenly beeped and flashed a message. YOU HAVE MAIL. Her brow furrowed as she stood and moved to the computer. "Hey Bec, may I check my email for a moment?"

The younger woman looked up. "Hm? Oh, sure." She stood from the chair so Vickie could sit. "Will you keep an eye on mine too?"

She grinned. "Of course. Still no word?"

Becki shook her head. "No. Not yet."

"Maybe he had a meeting or is seeing Sci and the others off. Give him time."

"I know," she sighed and moved to sit beside Josh.

Vickie watched her sadly. With her own sigh, she turned to the terminal and pulled up her email. Her brow immediately furrowed. Why am I getting an email from Llessur?

She quickly skimmed the email and her face dropped. Oh no. I can't just shag this. What am I going to do? She pulled up the Weather Channel page and sat back, thinking.

After a few minutes, she sat up to the keyboard and began to type.
