Operation Arrakis: Good Morning to You, Sylvana

By Sylvana Lorrdain

Sylvana must, somehow, have dozed off. The next thing she knew, she heard the rustling about in the parlor which could only mean one thing.

Breakfast.

She looked down to see that someone had apparently come in and put a blanket over her where she slept in the chair, not wishing to disturb her slumber. Probably Arrek, she thought to herself.

She pushed off the blanket and stood, tossing it to the bed as she stretched. Not caring that her short cinnamon wig had finally slipped, she pulled it off and tossed it onto the bed, scratching her head. "Need shower," she mumbled to herself, not caring that her long braid looked a bit tangled, and her fringe probably stuck out in most directions. She yawned and pushed her door open, heading into the parlor looking for some groceries to shove down her throat.

Everyone else was already awake and tucking in as she entered. Arrek had his back to her, and was pouring his second, if not third or fourth, bowl of cereal. Emily was directly across from him, working her way into a shortstack of pancakes. Aran was beside her, and it could only be Sci sat beside her brother, with Bethany on the other side. With a sigh, Sylvana shuffed her way in, and took a seat beside Emily, across from Bethany.

The teenaged girl burst out laughing. "I guess I don't have to wonder how Duo's hair looks when he wakes up anymore," she grinned. "I KNEW you wouldn't cut it!" she finished triumphantly.

Sylvana grinned, "Sure you did, that's why you were so horrified when you thought I did!"

Arrek laughed and shook his head, "Only you."

Sylvana could see Sci hiding a smirk behind his glass, and that Aran was doing essentially the same with his next bite of waffles. "Hey, at least I know how to look presentable if I absolutely need to," she said as she flashed a grin and reached for some eggs and beef- sausages.

"You didn't sleep too well last nite, did you Syl? You look like He-" he paused as she shot him a warning glare. "You look awful."

"Thanks for the uplifting compliment, Bro," she smirked. "No, I didn't sleep well," she said honestly.

"Why not?" Emily asked her. "You dreaming again?"

"Does she ever stop?" commented Arrek.

Sylvana sighed as she pushed the small helpings of food around her plate. "Yeah," she sighed.

"What'd you dream about this time, Syl?" Emily asked. "I haven't heard you tell a dream in a long while. They're so interesting, you should write them down - I bet you could sell them as stories."

"Yeah Syl, tell us what you dreamed."

"I have to admit, I'm curious myself," Bethany put in quietly.

She looked around the table, the eyes resting upon her making her feel a bit self-conscious. "It was just a couple of weird dreams, 'sall."

"Well, I LIKE hearing about the weird ones!" her brother obliviously pushed.

With a sigh, Sylvana related the dreams that had kept her awake most of the night. That those found in the tower looked vaguely familiar. The strange sight of Thor with Brad's eyes, and Hermes looking uncannily like Cpt. Nolan. When she was finished, she pushed her food around her plate some, before quickly finishing it. Her brother, she could see, took it as another of her bizarre dreams. Emily looked at her strangely a moment, before working at finishing her breakfast.

What worried her most was the way Sci glanced at her when he obviously thought she wasn't looking. What's going on in that head of his? she wondered silently as she finished tucking in and stood. "I'll be back in a bit," she told them before she headed back to her room. She grabbed her clothes, then went to the washroom, silence weighing heavily at table, then shut and locked the door behind her.

She turned on the water for the shower, letting it run until it went hot. As it did so, she crept to the door, and listened carefully.

"Does she often have dreams like this?" that sounded like Sci.

"Oh yeah, all the time," Emily told him.

"For how long?"

"Long's I can remember," Arrek answered.

"Interesting. . . ."

Sylvana shook her head as she quickly undressed and hopped into the steaming shower.
