Operation Arrakis: Blood's Thicker than Bacta

By Arrek and Sylvana Lorrdain

*Knock, Knock*

"Who is it?" Arrek asked as he rose to open the door.

"I'm back, are you decent?" Sylvana informed him.

"When am I ever?" Was his reply, as he opened the door to let her in. "What did you do to your hair?" he motioned to the short cinnamon style she was sporting.

"I thought I should try looking respectable." She walked past him and looked around the room. Then she looked at the bed and saw the bloodstains on the sheet. Then she turned to and saw his arm.

*Thwap!*

"Ow! What'd you do that for?"

"Arrek no baka, I can't leave you alone can I? I'm gone for, what, a little over a day and return to find my baby brother bleeding all over the consulate's sheets! What the sith happened to you?!"

Not able to hold back, Arrek hurriedly explained.

"I was coming back from the airport last night and before I got to the consulate there was this big man with a gun and he wanted all my money and he looked really, really mean and scary and he was saying naughty words and taking drugs as well as having a Ho on his arm and they were laughing at me and he was so drugged up that when he shot me it only got me in the arm, which really, really hurt and then I ran away and he chased me so I ran some more and then I got back to the consulate and hid from the scary man."

*Thwap!*

"Ow! What d'you do that for?" He was in enough pain without his sister smacking him upside the head.

"Babbling nonsense." She grabbed him, not too gently, by the arm and guided him to a chair so she could get a better look at the wound. "You IDIOT, leaving it like this and not telling anyone, it's a wonder you don't have gangrene yet!"

Arrek winced as he realized the next thing he had to tell her. "You know your really cool Star Wars T-shirt? The one you had specially made?"

"Yeah, why?"

"I was wearing it when I got shot."

*Thwap!*

"Ow! What d'you do that for?"

"YOU WORE MY T-SHIRT WHEN YOU WERE SHOT?"

Arrek winced, expecting her to cause him some severe pain within the next few seconds. "I can't believe you wore my shirt! What am I, a boutique?! You have your own shirts! I swear if you hadn't already been shot, I'd have done the deed myself! Let me see it. NOW!"

Getting up as quickly as he could he rummaged through the clothes frantically until he found what he was looking for. Holding it up and away from her line of sight, he realized it wasn't looking so good. Stained red with blood over most of the T-shirt, it would probably never be wearable again. Turning back towards her he said, "You don't want to see it, but if I do show you it will you hit me again?"

"No, I'm not so angry now." He turned around and showed her the T-shirt.

*Thwap!*

"Ow! You promised!"

"I don't care, I loved that T-shirt and now it's ruined, you deserve all the pain you get." She paused in thought a moment, Though a battle-scarred T could be fun to wear sometimes....

"To pay you back I'll set you up with Hobbie."

"Hn. I don't need setting up with anybody - the man's probably found a homegalaxy girl - it's been half a year." She sighed. "In any case I guess I'll treat your wound, but I have to get a med kit from somewhere.... Oh, wait! There was one in the shuttle." She rose and exited the room, checking the corridor before leaving. It was not long after she left that he heard another knocking on the door. Rising quickly he opened the door to see the Major standing outside.

"How can I help you sir?" he asked, keeping his arm concealed from view behind the doorjamb.

"I heard shouting, is everything all right?"

"Yeah, just me and Syl had a minor disagreement over some, uh, clothes of ours."

"Oh, well, I'll leave you to it. See you later."

Arrek breathed a sigh of relief as he turned from him and left.

Shutting the door, he went and sat on the bed, careful not to move his arm too much. A few minutes later Sylvana burst into the room with a small white case in her hand. After nearly a day of pain he'd finally be rid it.

She knelt by the bed flicking through the med kit's contents, thankful they were subbed in roman lettering. She really would have to learn the aurebesh. She made some appreciative noises upon finding some bacta patches and other such things. She disappeared for a few minutes, then returned after having washed her hands, then knelt beside him.

"Okay baka, let's do this," she said.

Carefully she used a hemostat to extract the bullet. It had been a low caliber weapon so the bullet hadn't gone completely through the arm. A sharp pain shot through his body, then numbed as she pressed a solution through the syringe into the hole. She slapped the bacta patches against his wounds after being sure to prevent infection, then wiped away the excess bacta from around the patch.

She went back and washed her hands again, to rid herself of the blood and bacta, before returning and laying back on the bed silently until Arrek turned to her. "Thank you, I didn't want to get into trouble or compromise the mission, so I did what I thought was best."

"It's okay, but you took a stupid risk. What did happen to that guy anyway?"

"After I got over my fear I went out and kicked seven shades of shit out of him."

*Thwap!*

"Ow! What'd you do that for?"

"Don't swear."

"Sorry."

They were silent a little while longer as Sylvana scratched absently at her hands. Must be a reaction to the soap, she thought to herself.

Suddenly, her brain caught up with her, and she looked over at her brother. "Airport?"

Arrek laughed - "It took you THAT long to catch that?!"

*bap* "I kind of had your arm to worry about, kid."

The siblings dissolved into laughter.
