Operation Arrakis: And Into the Firefight Part Two

by Vickie Boyd

A dark figure stood on a nearby rooftop watching the fight unfold. He watched the three with the lightsabers very closely. The tall one he knew. That was the malleable mind. The woman was tainted. He snarled in her direction. The third person confused him. He could not sense any Force about him, but his lightsaber technique was interesting. He wielded the blade awkwardly, yet never hurt himself.

The battle was growing ever increasingly intense. He watched his future apprentice "defending" his comrades. Several more times he and the annoying woman butted heads. She was going to have to go. And with the way they argued, he was sure his apprentice would gratefully take the job.

Another woman came into view. He felt confusion from his apprentice, the kind of confusion you get when you care greatly for someone. A smile parted his lips. "Ah, yes. She will do nicely."

Josh blocked another bolt in front of Lenka. "Get back with the others," he shouted over the din. "That's an order."

"I am not a member of Terra Group, Lieutenant. I do not have to follow your orders." She fired her blaster repeatedly, taking out several more of their opponents.

A stray bolt hit Josh, knocking his lightsaber out of his hand. The blade extinguished as the hilt flew several meters away. He was about to telekinetically bring it back when Lenka stepped in front of him like a shield. "I have an extra blaster. Take it. We don't have time for you to get your lightsaber."

He swiftly removed the blaster from the holster at her waist and fired around her. "I'll cover you. Make your way back to the others."

With a nod, she began to make her way back to the large group. Halfway there, she suddenly felt as if she could not move. Her body seized up and moved on its own, towards their enemy. She tried to scream, but could not find her voice. She felt as if she were being lifted from the ground.

Vickie stopped. She felt something very dark nearby. Her eyes scanned the area, searching for the source. She saw a figure standing on the roof of a building nearby. "Sith Lord," she whispered under her breath. She blinked at her words. How did she know what he was?

"NO! LENKA!" Josh's anguished cry pulled her attention away from the stranger. She turned to see the former lady-in-waiting hanging limply in the air, her body riddled with blaster bolts. Her head snapped back towards the dark figure. She could almost see him grin ferally at her. With a growl, she dashed towards him.

Lenka's body crashed to the Earth. Josh quickly scrambled to her side. "Oh no... please, be okay." He cradled her head in his lap.

Sci appeared at his shoulder and dropped a medkit beside him. "Lieutenant, you need to do something about them before the rest of us end up like her."

"Yes, Sir, Major," the tall Jedi said. There was a very dark tone to his voice. He stood and looked towards the men firing at them. A wind kicked up, blowing his hair askew.

Those watching could have sworn they saw something dark surround the young Jedi. Soon, their opponents were Force-pushed back hundreds of meters. The majority scrambled to their feet as soon as they stopped rolling and ran away.

Josh turned to check on Lenka, but a flash of light caught his eye. "Wells," he growled as he spotted the man quickly slipping into the darkness. He saw that Sci was taking care of her. She would be fine. "You are not going to get away this time." With the Force behind him, he quickly chased after the agent.

As if in a scene from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Vickie deftly climbed the wall of a building and crossed the rooftops towards her prey.

The Dark Lord smirked that the female Jedi was coming after him. He dropped from the building into his speeder. Within moments, he was readily leaving the city behind.

She arrived at the last building and watched the speeder disappear into the desert. "You haven't won yet," she said, extinguishing her blade.
