Project Boussh: What Next? by Vickie Boyd To: Vickie Boyd From: General Wedge Antilles Subject: (FOR VICKIE'S EYES ONLY) Re: Last Resort Having received Corran's report, and his high opinion of your potential, I give high weight to your insights on this matter. However, as they say, the proof of the rhyshcate is in the tasting. If circumstances permit, I will give all parties a fair hearing, as is my duty as a ranking officer in the New Republic military. But it is this same duty, to the people under my command, that means I may not have the opportunity to be as fair as you (or even myself) might like. The alleged traitor may be playing a game with us, rather than against us; such a course is a dangerous one, as they have chosen to play it alone. I hope that you are right, but it is my duty to act in my people's best interest. Yours, Wedge Rogue Lead. Vickie banged her head down on the computer desk. It was official. She was alone in this quest, if she chose to take it. Wedge was right. He did have a lot of people to think about. She was just one voice. "Damnit, why did I have to be Force sensitive?" She let the tears flow down her face. At least Wedge had faith in her use of the Force. ****************************************** "Ace to Nine, do you copy?" Pash pulled his A-Wing into a languid turn. He liked flying in atmosphere. He felt there was more of a challenge. The darkness made it even more exciting. "I copy Ace." Corran flew under Pash's loop. "Beautiful out here, isn't it." The red-haired pilot pulled up beside the X-Wing. "Yes, but that isn't our objective." "Spoilsport." He pushed ahead of Corran and switched on his reconaissance equipment. "We're 500 klicks from the site. You stay here and I'll go in for a closer look." "Be careful Ace. There may be others who do not wish you being nosey." "Well, they can just get over it Nine. Comm silence starts now." Pash turned towards the island at the northernmost tip of a chain. His sensors were set to infrared. There were patrols on the beaches, heavier towards a castle that seemed to be on the center of the island. A large indication of heat pointed to the location of several TIEs. Their generators were on in case they needed to take off. "Smile for the camera," he said as he recorded everything. After making two passes at the castle, he turned back towards where he had left Corran. A spike in heat readings caught his eye. Two TIEs flanked a shuttle as they rose into the air. He watched them as he continued on to where the X-Wing was. "Did you see that, Nine," he said when he got within short range comms of the X-Wing. "Yes I did," Corran replied. "Should we follow?" The Jedi watched the fighters and shuttle on his radar. Something nagged him. "Yes." The two pilots turned their ships skyward. "Lay back and try to keep under their sensors," Corran ordered. Pash pushed a few buttons on his control panel. "Sensors taken care of." Corran sighed. "They may notice that, Ace." "Oh yeah, right." He turned off his sensor jammers. "What are we going to do when they go past the atmosphere?" "I don't know. I'm just making this up as we go along." "Ha, ha. Corellian wit, I suppose." Corran grinned to himself. "Perhaps. Now, let's see where our prey goes." **************************************** Corran and Pash followed the shuttle out into space. It seemed to be taking a rather languid patter towards its destination. "Any idea who we're dealing with, Nine?" "Negitive, Ace. I'm not going to try that. It's a sure way to let them know they are being followed." "Oh." Pash didn't know much about the Force. Luke, Leia and Corran were about the only Jedi he knew. He knew his father's stand on Jedi didn't match his own. Airen wanted to use the Jedi for his own ends. Pash was nothing like his father. It was times like this when he wished his mother was still alive. She would understand. The sensors on the A-Wing lit up like a Christmas tree. "Holy shit," he whispered. Before them, a large Star Destroyer uncloaked to allow the shuttle and its escort inside. As soon as the ships were within the cloak, the Destroyer disappeared. "Nine, I think it's about time to leave." "Agreed, Ace. Did you get any readings while it was visible?" "Yeah, I got a few. Let's head back to base so we can look over this information." "I copy, Ace."
